I'm a veteran musician from Chicago, with 25 plus years of playing the midwest music scene. Recording, live performances and music education is how I make a living. I've owned Excel Music, Inc. since 1998. Excel Music is a private lesson studio that teaches all instruments at all levels. We sell music supplies and rent instruments as well. During the day I teach in the local school districts, working with young percussionists, helping them develop solid fundimental skills with reading, listening, technique and of course the rudiments! Drumline and Jazz band at the high schools is definately a real thrill. I'm a firm believer in the skills of the hand and being well rounded. Teaching is a great way to ensure the future of our craft, and it keeps the sticks in my hands. My talent is God given so how could I ever deny someone the opportunity to learn from me? In the summer I teach a lot of Marching Band and Drumline classes as well as clinics with Yamaha and their Sound of Summer programs. My main gig is with Painkiller Hotel out of Chicago. It's all original and is currently getting national airplay and is being placed on MTV's Real World, VH1's Steve O Show, and the Oxygen Channels Bad Girls. Painkiller Hotel showcased for the second year at South by Southwest in Austin, TX., in March 2008. On the side I play with some locals groups as a fill in and I play for a Gosple church on Sundays! There's studio sessions with Bobby Scumaci and L&S Productions and in my free time, it's family , friends and FISHING! That's right, this drummerboy is busy!
Hey Jeff. I really dig Chi-town man, been there a couple of times. The first one was boot camp at Great Mistakes(haha!!) for Navy Fleet Band, and the last that I was there was for the Music Conference in Arlington Hts. at Willow Creek Church. It's been a while since I've heard from Steve Myers over that way, and I know that Calvin Rodgers(C-Rod) is up that way kickin' with Marvin Sapp and Fred Hammond. I remember the reggae group Daloll there, and they toured with Ziggy for a minute in the 80's, but they split into two groups being Gizwae and Daloll. Chi-town's really hip. One Love.
