Born in Brussels, on July 2, 1973, Zeke Martin entered the world with a pair of drumsticks in his hands. Influenced by his father, Stu Martin, who played with Jazz greats such as Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Charles Mingus, Dave Holland and Quincy Jones, Zeke’s musical repertoire includes a blend of Jazz, Funk, Reggae and Rock.
In 1985, at the age of 12, Zeke had his first gig with Steve Lacy, in France. Shortly after, he moved to the United States where he began a successful career, including the formation of the Zeke Martin Quartet (ZMQ) and released two CD’s entitled LANDSCAPES and FUNKY STUFF. His unique and soulful style has enabled him to secure endorsement deals with both Sonor and Vic Firth, and he has also received accolades from Drum! Magazine (August 2002). Zeke has performed in several locations in the northeast, including the Berkley Performance Center in Boston, where he opened for Regina Bell; The Black Reparatory Theater in Rhode Island; and Minton’s Playhouse, in Manhattan. Currently, Zeke resides in New York City and also is a drum instructor.
