I’m old school… I just had my 50th birthday and I’ve been playing since I was about eight years old…you do the math. I practiced with records and tapes for ten years before I joined my first band. By that time I was about eighteen or nineteen. When I started playing with bands, my style was fusion, that’s all I played, that’s all I knew. Billy Cobham with Mahavishnu Orchestra, Chick Corea’s band, Return to Forever, Miles Davis and his band. I can go on and on but you get the picture. So after joining my first band, I had to learn other styles of music. R&B was at the top of the list, then I moved to rock and funk. I didn’t learn jazz till years later.
But now it’s 2008. Many years have passed, I’m a seasoned musician and I still practice every day; and I work a lot. My plate is full now and I’m in a lot of bands. I don’t have an endorsement yet, but God knows best… It may or may not happen, but I’ll never stop playing drums. My influences are Dennis Chambers, Rayford Griffin, Lenny White, Peter Erskine, Tony Royster,Jr., Billy Cobham, Buddy Rich, William Kennedy, Steve Gadd, Papa Joe Jones, Elvin Jones, Max Roach, Roy Haynes, Al Foster, Carlton Barrett, Martin Robinson, Joe Vu, Dennis Bradford, Bill Berg, Joel Smith, Jeff Tain Watts, Ricky Lawson, Gene Jackson, Carlos Vega, Paco Sery, Chad Wackerman, Vinnie Colaiuta, Vincent Sanders, Douglas Las Casas, Liberty DeVito, Alex Van Halen, Terry Bozzio, Tommy Bradford, Billy Shoes Johnson, Larry Bright, Harvey Mason, James Bradley Jr., Marvin Smitty Smith, to name a few. : )
I reside in Cleveland Ohio. I have my own recording studio for all my drum projects and practice. The equipment I use is, Tama, DW Pacific, a DW 9000 double pedal, Zildjian Cymbals, Gibraltar Hardware and Pro mark drum sticks.
