About Me:
Born in Philly raised in the south,South Jersey that is,Theo Brown was drawn to drumming at an early age and started listening to Max Roach,Elvin Jones,Tony Williams,Jack DeJohnette,Lenny White,Billy Hart,Alphonse Mouzon and Eric Gravatt. I would be remiss if I didn't mention Billy Cobham as my most major influence to drumming for the 20th century.Also my mentor Sherman Ferguson who I will forever be indebted and Russ Moy and Freddie Waits for unlocking the mental aspect of drumming for me and establishing a vocabulary.
The drumming influences are ever changing but some of the main influences include Dennis Chambers,JoJo Mayer,Teddy Campbell,Mark Mondesir,Steve Smith,Virgil Donati,Tony Royster Jr.,John Blackwell Jr.,Brian Blade,Dafnis Prieto,Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez,Antonio Sanchez,Terreon Gulley,Damien Reid,Greg Hutchinson,Raymond Weber,Terrence Higgins,Gene Lake,Carlin Muccular.It changes everyday!!
The music of Miles Davis is a major influence along with the music of Donnie Hathaway,Sly Stone,Tower of Power,Weather Report,McCoy Tyner,Herbie Hancock and The Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra,Gil Evans,Stefon Harris,The Movement Orchestra,Gaia,Soulive,Rhonda Smith,The Roots,Robert Glasper,Bobby Sparks,Marcus Miller,Victor Wooten,Roy Hargrove,Terrance Blanchard,Jeff Watts and a whole mess of whatever else is out ther being created.
Currently Theo Brown is the
drummer for former B.B.King bassist Russell Jackson and has performed with Randy Brecker,Eliane Elias,Luther Allison,Bernard Allison,Kenny Neal,Shemekia Copeland,Francine Reed,Sandra Hall,E.C. Scott,Guitar Shorty,Michael Coleman,Billy Branch,Mel Brown,HoneyBoy Edwards,Michael Hill,Jimmy King,Andrew"Jr.Boy"Jones,Robert"Jr."Lockwood,Janiva Magness,Kenny"BluesBoss"Wayne,Daniel Lanois,Bernie Worrell just to name a few.
Theo freelances constantly in every genre. A testament to his musicality and professionalism.
