Robert Perkins is one of those rare drummer who's wide ranging skills make him a valuable asset in any number of musical settings. Well known for his versatility, Rob is quickly becoming one of the more in-demand drummers in many different areas of the touring and recording scene. After graduating with honors from the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, and earning a Masters Degree from the University of Southern California, Robert has taken his education, and his unique experience and begun to make a name for himself as one of the most veritile, and professional drummers in the world . He has toured the world with Michael Buble, Bobby Watson, Tierney Sutton, The Clayton Brothers, Vanessa Rubin, The Benny Lackner Trio, Ingrid Jensen, and performed with Toni Braxton, David Sancious, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Terence Blanchard, Eric Reed, Mary Stallings, Chris Botti, Laura Pausini, Leon Parker, Clark Terry Jimmy Heath, and recorded with artists as diverse as Michael Buble, Dr. Dre, Charlie Hunter, Benny Lackner, Larry Williams, and Chris Pierce.
Robert is also garnering world wide exposure through extensive touring, recordings, and appearances on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Late Night With David Letterman, The Today Show, Dancing With The Stars, Entertainment Tonight, Live With Regis and Kelly, The View, The Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, Buena Fuente, The Parkinson Show, The San Remo Festival, Pulse, The Des and Mel Show, Wetten Das, as well as in video with Toni Braxton and Dr. Dre.
Robert's unique experience of working regularly with the best of the pop and jazz world has given him a unique voice and perspective that are making him increasingly in demand. This experience when combined with his education at the hands of Masters like Michael Carvin, Ndugu Chancler, John Clayton, and Billy Higgins in such prestigious institutions as The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, and The University of Southern California where he earned a Masters Degree in Music, makes Robert a valuable asset in any performance, recording or educational setting.

The second Slapstik New Beat Contest is now open for submissions. The purpose of the contest is to encourage drummers to develop new techniques with the Slapstik. In order to participate shoot a short video of yourself playing the Slapastik and post it on YouTube.com as a video response to our video http://youtube.com/watch?v=QMg9Fxe8AEk
A panel of judges will review all the submissions and pick three finalists. The first prize is $300, second prize $200, third prize $100. The deadline for submissions is July 1st.
