- 19 Year Old Marcos Lopez is one of the new talent that is emerging in the percussion world right now. He's building his dream with what God gave him: his talent. Attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts he is now on the road to complete his dream. He has become one of the most looked at young percussionist from Puerto Rico.
He's able to perform in different styles of music and different percussion instruments. That is thanks to his teachers: "My Dad Marcos, my uncle: Luis Ayala, David Marcano, Chago Martinez, Anthony Carrillo, John Blackwell, John Ramsey, Ernesto Diaz, Victor Mendoza, Eguie Castrillo who gave me the opportunities and the time to help me get to where I'm today, also to all the people that influenced me directly and indirectly" Marcos says.
Marcos has performed and recorded with artist like N'Klabe, Victor Manuelle, Andy Montañez, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Wisin & Yandel, Rey Ruiz, Cheo Feliciano, Moncho Rivera and Ruben Blades and shared stage with great musicians like: Alex Acuña, Giovanni Hidalgo, Anthony Carrillo, Cachao, Eguie Castrillo, Marc Quiñones, Sheila E., Greg Hopkings, Dave Valentin, Roberto Roena, Oskar Cartaya, Dafnis Prieto, Mario Rivera, Luis Marin, Ralph Irrizary, Luis Enrique, Javier Oquendo, Tito De Gracia and Bobby Allende.
He has given percussion clinics at The Montreal Drum Fest and in the Percussion Festival in Puerto Rico, plus he has performed at the Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden in NY, Coliseo De Puerto Rico, Ryles Club, Beantown Jazz Festival and Reggata Bar in Boston and in cities like Montral and Mexico.
He's currently working with Eguie Castrillo, Victor Mendoza, Manguito and LaTimbistica a new upcoming salsa band from Boston featuring Marcos and Berklee Students.

The second Slapstik New Beat Contest is now open for submissions. The purpose of the contest is to encourage drummers to develop new techniques with the Slapstik. In order to participate shoot a short video of yourself playing the Slapastik and post it on YouTube.com as a video response to our video http://youtube.com/watch?v=QMg9Fxe8AEk
A panel of judges will review all the submissions and pick three finalists. The first prize is $300, second prize $200, third prize $100. The deadline for submissions is July 1st.
