About Marc Clermont-
I started playing drums at age four in Haiti, but later switched to trumpet at the age of eight when I first arrived in NYC. My love of drums took over again after four years on the horn and I returned to my first love, drumming!. I was influenced by Rock and Roll and R&B when coming to New York at age eight and learned to speak English by watching American television and by listening to American records and radio. I have been influenced by my Caribbean roots as well as by American music, and influenced by all the performers I have been fortunate to work with from all over the world. I have played with musicians from Canada, Russia, Poland, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, African musicians from the Ivory Coast, Morocco, Cameroon, Tonga, Fiji, Samoa and the Polynesian Isles as well as from the United States.Ie began to sing while playing drums in a band at age fifteen while living in Chicago. I made my singing debut, when I was a member of jazz/rock guitarist Chris Cortez’ band (Blue Bamboo Music) in Orlando. Since that time, I have held down the lead vocal chair in most bands I have performed with. I am fortunate to have enjoyed the varied styles of musicians I have had the pleasure of performing with over the years, and I play all styles of music from blues, jazz, world, classical to rock with everything in between.
I play most styles of music but enjoy playing jazz, funk, rock, world and Caribbean influenced styles of music.
Since moving to Florida in 1973, I have played drums in many different types of musical groups and am very fortunate to have studied privately with many wonderful teachers.
In Orlando, during the late 70's, I was a founding member of jazz/pop/fusion band Tapaztry with flutist David Philbrick, percussionist Carlos Fernandez, bassist Ron Mozee, and keyboardist Bob Rose, opening for the likes of Herbie Mann, Spyro Gyra, Special EFX, and Ray Charles. They released several recordings of their performances during their years together, while in 1979, being voted in the Orlando Sentinel’s “People’s Poll” as the “Premier Jazz Band” of the I-4 corridor. Tapaztry played together for six years and performed at the famous Columbia Restaurant in Tampa for three of those years as the house band at the restaurant, in the room called “The Warehouse”, built especially for Tapaztry.
Throughout my career, I have played on hundreds of recording sessions, performed at thousands of concerts, and I've taught private drum lessons to a number of drummers, young & old in Central Florida and the Tampa Bay area for the last 25 years.
I have been a drum clinician all over the US, and in the 80’s was endorsed by Yamaha Drums, R.I.M.S. and Beato, and I performed with David Garibaldi, Jeff Hamilton, Dom Famularo and Gumbi Ortiz at the University of Tampa. I've toured and performed at NAMM shows and I've done clinics from Florida to California and Illinois and back, (with Seymour Duncan's Invaders) I've performed with my own groups, as well as with other recording artists all over North America.
I was also on the V-32 television show “Jazz Is” in Tampa Bay with guitarist Mike Pachelli for four years.
I've performed with Rockin’ Robin/Franklin Brothers/Evolution, at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and with international recording artist, Melanie, at the 30 year Woodstock Reunion a “Day in the Garden” in Bethel, New York.
As lead vocalist & percussionist, I've performed as part of the Hard Rock Live Band, Evolution, which included Liberty DeVitto of the Billy Joel Band, vocalist Randie Paul, the Franklin Brothers ( Rockin' Robin), and Charlie Dechant of Hall and Oates.
With Evolution,I've performed with Classic Rock artists such as:
Spencer Davis, Edgar Winter, John Entwistle of the Who, Eric Burdon of the Animals, Les Dudek of Allman Brothers, Leslie West of Mountain, Lee Oskaar of War, Bobby Kimball of Toto, James Jameson of Survivor (of Rocky fame), Rick Derringer, Pat Travers, and Mike Pinera from Iron Butterfly.
I've also performed with Davy Jones of the Monkees, Percy Sledge, Johnny Thunder, The Dixie Cups, The Coasters, Don Chery, Carla Thomas, Ben E. King, and Little Anthony & the Imperials.
I've also performed and recorded with Blues/R&B artists “Beautiful” Bobby Blackmon, Ernie Lancaster, and with Jeff Whitfield (winner of the Thoroughbred Music's Eric Clapton guitar contest), playing on Jeff's album “Kindred Bridges”.
I've performed and recorded with various jazz artists as well:
Jeff Rupert and Per Danielson, Professors of Jazz Studies at UCF, Chuck Archard, Professor of Jazz Studies at Rollins College, Bobby Koeble adjunct professor at Rollins College, Ira Sullivan from University of Miami, Eddie Marshall, Phillip Martin, Danny Jordan, Pete Barbutti, Al Hirt, Nick Brignola, both Lionel and Mark Hampton, Keyboardist Neil Larson, Jazz pianist Kenny Drew, Jr. Brazilian pianist Manfredo Fest, singer/trumpeter Ralph Loveday of the Endangered Species Orchestra, trumpeter Howie Shear, and PolyGram smooth jazz guitarist Richy Kicklighter, to name a few.
For several years, I've also performed and recorded with saxophonist, Paul Howards, of N’SYNC and Justin Timberlake fame.
I've performed and recorded with Caribbean artists, Captain Harry, Coco Loco and performed and recorded with “Tory Wynter’s Cosmic World Beat” for over 10 years.
I've performed and recorded with Jazz and R&B vocalists Crystal Lake, Jacqueline Jones, Tascha Comeaux, Randie Paul, Juanita Marie, Brenda White, Donna Allen, Lady Nicole and Michelle Amato soloist with Yanni.
In the last 10 years I've played with various Christian artists such as: the gospel shows of Cynthia Cassanova-Miller, Sissaundra Lewis, recorded with artist Angelo Ballestero and the dynamic Gerald Cassanova.
I've also played in Gerald’s Classic Funk/Dance band “Cassanova’s ‘Ol Skool Xperience” and also recorded a live album at “Universal Studio’s “City Jazz” in 2005 with Gerald.
I've played thousands of weddings and conventions over my long career as well, with one of the highlights in 2005 for the wedding of Johnny Damon of the New York Yankees. Playing the reception & party afterwards was AC/DC. Lead vocalist Brian Johnson got to sit in with Marc & his group.
My current band "Airtight", was founded in the Tampa Bay area in 1989 with guitarist Tyrone Williams and bassist Jimmy Null (Steven Stills) and has since relocated to Orlando.
As "Airtight" I've recorded two CDs on Divi Records, studio & live with my longtime friends, Bassist Robert Wawoe, Keyboardist Ed Krout, and Guitarist Paul Buzine.
I feel blessed to have performed with so many gifted musicians over the last 35 years!

I fell in love with the drums at the age of four and my love for the instrument continues to grow. My hope is that as I grow older I will still be able to enjoy playing like the great Billy Cobham, Roy Haines and Bernard Purdie, who just keep on sounding better and better as the years pass. Remember: The groove is king!
