Born into a gifted family, it is of no surprise that music is a principle factor in the life of Jeffery Davis. Just as any drummer, music for Jeffery started on pots, pans, cardboard boxes and other household items. At the tender age of four years, Jeffery began a beautiful journey of exploration in the sights, sounds, and textures.
During his early development, it was Jeffery’s father who was not a drummer that taught him the basics of drumming. This period of rudiments and disciplined “pocket” beats were hard to stick to, especially being intrigued by the amazing tricks of older drummers. However, due to his fathers wise wisdom, “sticking to the basics” opened many doors, some minor and others major. Playing as a pre-teen Jeffery played wherever he could find a set-- elementary schools assemblies, conferences, and for his Father’s church.
In Jeffery’s second year of high school At Etiwanda High School, he decided to take a piano course under the direction of Dr. Gale Serdan. In order to get to his piano class he had to pass by his school’s main band room frequently, at times sneaking chords and sometimes bars of music, all the while going unnoticed by the band’s director. As time went on, he started trying to perfect his craft, not in drums but in piano, which coincidentally led him back to drums. It was when he decided to play piano at the schools art festival, he heard the jazz band play and decided to join in order to become a better musician. Under the direction of Don Jaramillo, the musically illiterate drummer learned how to read and truly play with a band In those two years, as a junior and senior in high school, Jeffery’s life was truly change. In 2004, He went on to tour Europe playing at the Montreaux and Vienne Jazz. He became first jazz drum chair, was awarded the best drum solo at the 2005 Valencia Jazz Festival, and earned the Most Improved Musician for his senior class at Etiwanda High School.
After graduating high school Jeffery attended Chaffey College and played in the Chaffey College Latin Jazz Band under the direction of Gustavo Gill. Opportunities and accomplishments included playing at the First Inland Empire Latin Jazz Festival in 2006, drumming for the Chaffey College Community Big Band under the direction of Patrick Aranda and receiving honors at the Reno Jazz Festival In Reno, Nevada for Best Musicianship.
Currently Jeffery attends California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, California studying Digital Media Arts with an emphasis in Audio Recording and a minor in Music. While attending Cal State University Dominguez Hills, Jeffery is involved in the Cal State Dominguez Jazz Ensemble and has been working on many projects for artist that have a desire to get their music out into the world.
Jeffery has many musical mentors and support systems. He works with artist such as Gary Stanionis,Abraham Laboriel Sr Chuck Findley, J.Michael O’Neal, Will Kennedy, Gorden Campbell, Devo “Called And Chosen” and many others.
He currently plays for New Beginnings Family Worship Center under the musical direction of Oliver “Butch” Dillon who has played with artist such as Minnie Riperton, Kirk Franklin, Reba McEntyre, Bow Wow and others. Jeffery also plays for Vaughn Fahie and The S4G Music Ensemble, Kingdom Business, Tymeless Music and The Eko Funke Band.
Besides wanting to become a great musician, Jeffery also wants to pour into the lives of youth, giving them inspiration to reach for their dreams, whether it is in a non-musical or musical field.
Jeffery has two loving parents, Jeffery And Terry Davis, a beautiful older sister Ja’Nae Davis and a dog by the name of Shilo.
