About Me:
Fellow Drummers/Percussionists/Musicians, I am honored to be a part of such a random yet exclusive community such as is music. I started playing at 2 I think. I learned by ear and emulation but also took lessons for about 9 months when I was 9 yrs. old with a drummer/pianist Steve Block. Growing up in a mid-size church in Brooklyn (True Vine Tabernacle), I became the drummer for the church at 13 (before that, I was on the children's choir, junior choir then adult choir). Anyway, I began listening to jazz at 14 when Max and Maxine Roach were in the basement of my school in my older sisters' orchestra class as a guest speaker. My art teacher was telling us about him and I was like "who's that guy?". A classmate (Rayshawn) almost smacked me for saying that and coincidentally had a cassette tape of his album. He gave it to me and told me to listen to it.For about 3 days I kept falling asleep listening to it because my ears and mind were not accustomed to such music but I got it on the fourth day! Since then, I've opened myself up to many different genres of music and styles of playing, absorbing more and more as I listen. So far I've had the honors of being on Good Morning America (High School Marching Band quad Solo at the last Yankee Day Parade), playing with the Brooklyn College Jazz Big and Small Band, with r&b/gospel singer Kelly Price for a few gigs, and recording with some great talents including r&b/soul singer Stephanie Mckay, world reknowned bandoneon player Hector Del Curto and heralded trumpeteer Mark Rapp. Right now I keep myself busy on the NY circuit playing and recording with various bands as well as playing Sunday morning service at my new church in Harlem (Fresh Beginnings). I also write songs, produce, sing a bit and play keys and bass guitar. I want to network with other drummers/percussionists in the NY area, the nation and the world. This site is a great way to unite us. Thanks Poogie. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

P.S.- I also have a studio (Abstract Rhythm) in the DUMBO area of Brooklyn with my partner, engineer/turntablist/producer Brendan O' Brien (DJ Baked Potato). We record all styles of music, we have an iso booth for vocals, quality mics, preamps, full drumkit...and we offer a wide range of musicians to work with you on your projects. Yes, even string players. We are flexible with budgets and will work with you to plan out your project. Send me a message if your in NY and would like to check it out.

Hello Andrew!

I'm happy to know that this information has helped you... It's important to know that the technology today gives the musician many choices and when it comes to microphones you can't do too bad.

Good luck and let me know how it turns out ok? My next blog will be on In-Ear Monitor Systems and Ear Buds.
