I think a great way to find gigs are referrals from fellow drummers. Sometimes as a drummer you can't make every gig and it's nice to have a back up so you can refer someone you know will deliver on the gig and make you look good when you had to miss the gig.

A word of caution though, some drummers have insecurity problems and are afraid they will lose the gig to whom they referred but really there is enough room for everyone and your true talent and personality will shine through because no one plays like you so don’t be afraid go give other drummers the nod, it may come back to you in the same way.

If you are a drummer who gets the referral be respectful to the person who referred you. Be sure to show up one time, learn the material, have your entire gear ready, don’t abuse free drinks and food offers, and be respectful of the artists you are working with. If asked to play something a different way or in another arrangement, accommodate the artist.

Most of this is common sense stuff. The main point is be sure when you walk away that you have brought honor to the person who gave you the referral and the artist you are working with so you may be invited again or for another opportunity.

Peace!

I guess this is where the difference between being a singer and a drummer comes in, since to get a gig as a singer is a different fish to catch
