Hey Greg, How ya doin?
Billy C. here. in Tn. I don't have any videos of me playing the drums and bass at the same time. I'll tell you what the trick is. I was playing drums up in Indianapolis
with the Gosman Family singers and Papa Carl. It was a comedy song called "All Gospel Singers like Fried Chicken." We performed this at the Quartet Convention in front of a few thousand folks. SRO.
I've got a set of 68 Ludwig Mother of Pearls.
(The Buddy Rich set) My Hi-hats are big heavy 15 inchers
and when I stomp on the pedal. They basically sound like the back beat of 2 and 4. So, its Boom, chick, Boom Chick with the feet while my hands are playing the bass parts. Drum riffs are out. lol. so I guess you can
imagine doing that. You ought to try it. It gets a little intricate if you start getting funky. Love Bro
God Bless and take care. chick-a-boom Billy C.
cool will, I didnt mean any harm,i just thought, that would be nice too see!.....i'm sure it was hard. it's amazing what we can do under circumstances,..Iwas'nt trying to take nothing away from you!!!....when you get a chance post a video of yourself.playing
Hey Greg, I didn't mean to sound like whatever you was saying. 'Anyway, I'm an older
guy who's been around in the percussion field. I've hung out with Buddy Rich and really got to talk shop and learn alot about big band playing. He was an Awsome drummer.
I really appreciate the fact that he took the time to just sit around with a pair of sticks
and jam on a table top, lol. He showed me stuff like thirty-second triplets with an offbeat
bass drum. I can still do it today but it really doesn't have any musical application. Being
down here in Tennessee, it's pretty much country with blues-jazz thrown in if we can get
away with it. lol. My drums are a 68 Ludwig Mother of Pearl, 6 pc set with all Zilidian cymbals all around. And you'll never get me to part with my Ludwig Speed King Pedals.
So, what is it and what kind of music do you do out there in Calf. Peace, Billy C.
