I love a lot of drummers, but I grew up listening to nothing but old skol, because thats what my folks played and I couldn't touch the radio! Lol So these cats where the one's I stole from growing up and yes Poogie you where one of them! God as my witness jack! My mom played all the hell out of that Erykah Badu Live till it was nothing left in it but Jesus! Lol
Hey Streeter, how many times a day was "Tyrone" played in your house? That tune, although I really dig it, and Poogie put that stank on it, I mean greasy, poppin' pocket on it , became one of the Women's National Anthems worldwide, let me tell ya!! Bruthas, look out when you make yo' woman mad atcha, and you begin to hear this cut in the background!! Look out! LOL!!

1)Buddy Rich, 2)Steve Gadd, 3)Vinnie Colautia, 4)Steve Smith, 5)JoJo Mayer, 6)Tony Williams, 7)Terry Bozzio, 8)Peter Erskin, 9)Dennis Chambers, 10) Benny Greb All of these cats paly musically! Yeh, they have a ton of chops, but they are able to put them aside and play music! With these cats the groove is king!
I don't believe in lists as a rule because I believe everyone brings something to the table, but I'm very surprised to see that cats like Max, Philly, and Papa have not been mentioned more or not at all. These cats were so immensely gifted and important that only a first name is needed. They so much changed their art, that to not mention them is a great dis-service. This is not to say that I disagree or am taking anything away from the cats that are listed here. They are all great talents as well, and all have one very important element in common -- their heart is their first instrument and their soul, the artist.
