Okay you just finished the gig...Is it just me or are you with me when I've gotta have something to eat after the gig...I'm trying to work on this especially late night but I put out alot of energy..So is a bad habit or legit .... Some suggestions. that can help all of us...
I feel you dog I'm always want something to eat after the gig too!
i'm trying to get my weight down........so i'm doing a salad after the gig these day's or maybe some sushi......
eating rossco's is alway's the sh@t but you cant eat like that late @ nite :-( even if you want too
so many Drummers are over weight and i think that after the gig eating may be one of the reason's why
....... A lot of people dont eat before the show
I use to be like that always thought it would slow me down.......but i'm finding that not too be true so i eat a normal dinner now before the gig even if the catering sucks as it often does?! So after a salad or some sushi something lite i get my jones over with and dont get on the bus and go too sleep with all that food laying on my belly not going no where...........great topic !!!!!!!
Ha! Agreed. We need to eat. We put out a lot of energy. Choices are the key word here. Here is the real deal--It's simple. Eat and Move. (as my friend Susan Powter says) But think about it...? You gotta do both. The relationship of how much depends on your choices. What are you eating and how much do you move? Really really simple. No diets needed if you remember to remember!
Before and after I like sushi cuz it's protein and will last longer, energy wise. Salads with a protein work too (chicken, etc). But yo, Drop the simple carbs, breads, pastas, with no extra benefit. Eat smaller meals more times a day. Tough to do on the road. So here is the rub when on the road and yes, it's very tricky to do. Be prepared. Grab some bags of almonds, power bars, raisins, etc. and healthier snacks if you can, when you can -- and throw them into your trunks or your bag, or car if working around town, rehearsing etc.. Also take the steps...when you can, always!!! (hotels, etc.) Cool topic ~ more on it soon. Gotta go eat ...Hahaha! ciao, -janelle
Well, I'm a big dude too, but the approach I've taken believe it or not is eating in accordance to the book of Leviticus. The book of Leviticus shows how to prepare food, and what foods to eat. The priests were thick, strong, healthy men 'cause of the Levitical dietary laws and lifestyle. Sampson was a huge man, between 8 and 9 ft. tall, and about 450 lbs., very fast and agile, and if you read the story, it tells you what he ate, and he ate a lot of it. I'm not worrying 'bout losing weght, but makin' sure that I'm eatin' right, drinkin' plenty of water, stretching, and some martial arts, or some kind of cardio happnin'. Does the body well when you have to play 3 or 4 hours straight or more. I'm so thankful that I did change my lifestyle 7 years ago, 'cause 3 yrs. ago, I did a hit on Cinco De Mayo, and I tore my left miniscus, but I didn't need surgery 'cause it was healing on it's own, and I was still able to play, and I rehabbed it back to normal, but if it wasn't for any form of exercise and eating, I would've been in worse shape, gettin' surgery done. I'll eat at night, but I now understand part of it is what I eat. I try to think in the way the Levitical Priests did.
Hey Jannelle, You hit it on the head, eat and move. I realized how much we need to move other than playing drums, although that's a workout in itself, but we must make sure the whole body's gettin' the workout it needs, along with stretchin'. I haven't sparred as much lately, due to our schedules, but we do get some time in, mainly for me. I also see the importance of exercise for makin' sure the brain's gettin' plenty of oxygen as we get older in order to keep our brains stimulated. Man, Roy Haynes, 82 yrs. young, and playin' like he's 22!!
ok...Poogie and Janelle...I have my periods when I'm a good boy and order a salad..after the gig...But I'll try to pack meal replacement bars with me..and drink PLENTY OF WATER...
Hahaha! Hey baby, that's it--go slow wit' dis. No one wants it to hurt. Well..For real though, It takes time to affect long term change but how do you do that??? RRRRRRRR LLLLLLLL. 5 -10 min. a day will make more diff than 1/2 hour one time a week we tell beginners, right? Well...Finding out what foods "do" function (proteins, simple vs . complex carbs etc.) is key-- then find what works for 'you' specifically (your tastes, road rhythm differ. etc.) is part of the awareness thing. I have a whole blog comin soon with this and more. Good stuff ~ Enjoy! -janelle
